Barista Jam 2010

July 29, 2010

Echo Coffee will be hosting a Barista Jam on August 21, 2010 from 7pm-10pm, co-sponsored by Echo Coffee and Cortez Coffee. During the event we will have a latte art competition. All Arizona baristas are invited to attend, participate, and compete. We will have prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place. For those wishing to compete, we ask for a modest $3 donation.

Contestants will be asked to make a 6 oz cappuccino and a 12 oz latte, to demonstrate their skill as a barista. The cappuccino can be made with only milk and espresso, while the latte can be decorated on the top, if desired (chocolate art, powder, etc. are all fair game).† Each barista will have 5 minutes to make the 2 drinks, and contestants will be judged on a number of factors including creativity, quality of execution, cleanliness, and flair.

To provide a wider stage for folks to display their skill, we will stream the event live on, and have it on display in the shop. Check back for details for how to view the event live, if you can’t be at Echo the night of the event.

We also invite attendees to bring their own espresso.† We will have several spare grinders available to pull your favorite espresso and enjoy an informal espresso cupping with espressos from around the state.

Here’s a link to a flyer, you can print, if you’d like to post it: Barista Jam 2010 flyer

So save the date now, and tell your friends Echo Coffee will be the place to be on August 21st.† You won’t want to miss it.
